Dr. Muhammad Bashar Nuhu, is an Associate Professor of Estate Management & Valuation and Head, Estate Management & Valuation Department (first from 2005 – 2013 and 2016 – to date). He is the current Director, Centre for Human Settlement & Urban Development, all at the Federal University of Technology, Minna. Between October, 2015 to October 2016 was on Sabbatical leave at Bayero University, Kano where he was pioneer Head of Estate Management & Valuation Department. He developed the curriculum and established the administrative and academic structures. Dr. Nuhu also served in the Government of Niger State of Nigeria as Commissioner for Tertiary Education and member of the State Executive Council (from February 2013 to November 2014 where he resigned and declined reappointment thereafter, but serves as a consultant and in close collaboration with Government).
Dr. Nuhu possesses Diploma in Public Administration, National Diploma (ND)/Higher National Diploma (HND) in Architecture, Bachelor of Technology Degree in Estate Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), Masters of Technology Degree in Construction Management and Ph.D in Estate Management (the first in Northern Nigeria) he is an expert in Land Policy/Land Information System (LIS)/GIS/Land Administration, Housing Management & Development, and Urban Land Investment Appraisals. He equally has expertise in Community Development, Financing and Management of Local Infrastructure initiatives.
He is an Estate Surveyor and Valuer and at the highest grade of FELLOW, served as Member, National Council of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) for more than ten years, Past Chairman of NIESV-Niger State (2004 to 2015), and the first NIESV National Chairman of Education Committee/ Chairman of Board of Examiners NIESV from Northern region of Nigeria and also was a Board Member, Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON), Member; Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Member; Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) and Vice Chairman of Niger state Chapter, Associate Member; Association of Architectural Educators in Nigeria (AARCHES), Member Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Fellow Institute of Corporate Administration.
Dr. Nuhu has over 15 years’ experience in Lands Management and Administration at the Local Government (LG) level of Niger State, Nigeria, and rose to the rank of Director, Public Works, Lands, Survey and Housing. He was the pioneer National Secretary of the Federation of LG Directors of Works in Nigeria (2000-2005) and equally engages in consultancy work in Nigeria, among which include; the consultant to the Niger State Geographic information System (NIGIS) for improved Land Information System. He was involved in an International Training Programme on ‘Financing and Management of Local Infrastructure initiatives, under the auspices and sponsorship of Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency (SIDA) at Sweden, Zambia and Kenya.
He was the only Nigerian selected and sponsored to the Joint Seminar of International Federation of Surveyors (FIG)/Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations at Verona, Italy and presented Nigerian Land policy country situation in 2007. He is also NIESV Country representative to International Federation of Surveyors FIG and had chaired technical session of Cadastral and Land management at 2009 working week of FIG, Eilat, Israel.
He has served as resource person to National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON) on several accreditation exercises and resource assessments to tertiary institutions in Nigeria. In addition, he also serves as external examiner to many tertiary institutions. His research interest spans various aspects of real estate and urban land issues. His scholarly articles have appeared in reputable national and international journals and presented papers in over 20 countries. He had attended not less than 25 intentional conferences in different countries and visited over 37 countries, he is the founder/chairman of Basira Bashir Foundation (BBF) a humanitarian and community development NGO. He is Married with children and is a lover of horse racing and badminton and has great passion for promoting GREEN ENVIRONMENT through BBF Green Promoters outfit.
